Tyro is an award-winning writer, director and photographer based in London working in fiction, documentary and fashion. Her films are rooted in the DNA of family and youth, love and loss, and she strives to offer an alternate insight in all of her work, taking a highly collaborative approach. She is dedicated to soulful, character-driven filmmaking, and enjoys experimenting with sound and multiple mediums to create evocative and stylistically original work. Her short films have screened on Channel 4 in the Random Acts programme and at Oscar, BAFTA and BIFA qualifying film festivals worldwide. Tyro’s latest film, Back to School, premiered at the BFI London Film Festival.

Tyro’s collaborations with the sustainable clothing brand ELLISS have been showcased on multiple online platforms and publications, bringing a more candid and honest perspective to the fashion landscape. She was a founder, Arts Editor and contributing photographer for independent feminist magazine Ladybeard and also shoots for Lula Magazine. She has worked with luxury brands like Chanel but also cutting edge theatres like the Kiln.

When she’s not working on her own projects, Tyro runs film workshops with local youth groups and charities working with disabled people.

Tyro is currently developing her first feature. Ray on the Road is a father-daughter road movie about truth and falsehoods, grief and ghosts, the possessions we treasure and the fibs and fables which push us to the brink.
